Neptune Flutist, Spring Lake Guitarist To Perform in October Concerts
Marjorie Koharski, Neptune flutist and Keith Calmes, classical guitarist, Spring
Lake, will perform two concerts in October. The first performance will be at the
Spring Lake Public Library on Monday, October 15 at 7:30 pm followed by another
concert at the main branch of the Ocean County Public Library in Toms River on
Sunday, October 28 at 2:00 pm.
Koharski is a flutist and piccoloist with the Monmouth Symphony Orchestra, a
former faculty member of The Monmouth Conservatory of Music, a member of the New
York Flute Club and a member of The National Flute Association where she attends
their annual conventions and performs in cities throughout the United States.
She has performed in Master Classes with James Galway, Julius Baker and Murray
Panitz. She is founder and director of The Festive Flutes, a semi-professional
flute choir, who perform light classical music and show tunes. She teaches flute
in her Neptune studio.
Keith Calmes earned degrees in classical guitar performance from the Julliard
School, California State University and the University of Southern California.
He has performed as a soloist at New York Public Library at Lincoln Center,
Alice Tully Hall and Carnegie Recital Hall. As a chamber musician, he has played
with members of The Los Angeles Philharmonic, Metropolitan Opera and The
Julliard Symphony under the direction of Leonard Slatkin. He has performed as
guest soloist with The Monmouth Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Calmes directs a guitar
program at Wall Township High School and also teaches privately.

August 22, 2007 - The Coaster – Fiesta Flute Orchestra. Albuquerque, NM
Marjorie Koharski, a Neptune flutist returned from a music education trip to
Albuquerque, N.M., where she participated in the 35th annual convention of the
National Flute Association. While there, she performed in the Fiesta Flute
Orchestra under the direction of Gwen Powell, on the faculty at the University
of Arizona. She also performed in flute choir reading sessions, attended
workshops of flute pedagogy and attended concerts featuring flutists from around
the world.
Mrs. Koharski is a flutist and piccoloist with the Monmouth Symphony Orchestra
and the founder and director of The Festive Flutes, a semi-professional flute
choir who perform concerts throughout New Jersey. She also performs in concert
with Spring Lake guitarist, Keith Calmes, a flute/classical guitar duo. She
teaches flute in her Neptune studio.
